While most truckers are careful and responsible individuals working hard to provide for their families, some truckers are on a road to ruin their careers. Here are some ways truckers can quickly ruin their careers.

Getting A DUI

Getting a DUI is an obvious way to quickly ruin a Trucking career. You will be unhireable for at least a year or more. Also the types of companies that are willing to take a chance on you after a DUI won’t pay well.

Getting an UberLyft, or taxi is worth it, compared to years of being unemployable as a Trucker. Not to mention, you make yourself a danger to yourself and others. We shouldn’t have to say it, but DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.

Refusing Drug Tests and doing Drugs

Like Nancy Reagan said, “Just Say No to Drugs”. Although in many states Cannabis is legal, it is not legal Federally, so basically this means truckers cannot partake in Cannabis. Also, it is also recommended not to use any CBD oil either, it might still come up positive on a DOT drug test.

If you do have a positive drug test, you will need to go into a SAP program, for a drug treatment and assessment with multiple required drug tests over a significant period of time. This will limit places where you can get high paying jobs. At Bloom we do not accept people that are actively on the SAP program.

Refusing drug tests are also the same as testing positive, since Clearinghouse considers it as the same thing. So, refusing a drug test is the same as failing it. So, basically for a trucker don’t refuse a drug test and don’t do drugs.

Abandoning Trucks and other negative things

The quickest way to get passed over by a future employer is to abandon a truck. It will affect your DAC report, and companies are unwilling to accept a driver that abandons a truck. When a company asks you to bring a truck back, bring it back, when you are quitting a company, bring the truck back. Doing so will avoid anything negative on a DAC report, and will help you keep your good reputation. Giving two weeks is always recommended, but it is important to always bring the truck back clean and complete your inspection.

Being respectful and responsible generally will help truckers avoid most other negative outcomes, it goes a long way. Leaving on good terms with employers, being respectful to coworkers, dispatchers, shippers, etc. will carry weight with employers. Trucking can be frustrating, but don’t lose your cool. Keep an eye out on your goal, make money, and keep the wheels turning.
