Exercising safe braking in trucking requires the driver to factor in their surroundings and rely on their experience and judgment. Always keep the trailer straight when braking. The proper braking technique calls for feathering the brake pedal until the truck comes to a stop. In normal circumstances. The safest way to brake is to do so early and lightly. Brake more firmly as you begin to stop. Ease the pressure off just before the vehicle comes to rest to avoid a jerky stop.

Your braking techniques are important for safe driving:

  • Light on the brake pedal
  • Brake no more than necessary
  • Let off your gas pedal several seconds before you need to brake
  • Brake early
  • Pump your brakes to give warning to the driver behind
  • Use steady pressure when braking

Utilize these techniques to ensure safe driving.
